Word on the Street 4/4/12
1. Actress/singer Vanessa Williams has revealed she was molested by the daughter of a family friend when she was just 10 years old.
The Desperate Housewives star bravely recounts the painful experience in her new memoir You Have No Idea, which she co-authored with her mother Helen, andWilliams insists it’s time she finally went public with her story in a bid to help others.
She writes, “Family friends who had a daughter invited me to visit their friends in California with them. The family we stayed with had two kids. Susan, who was 18, smoked, drove a car, and was the epitome of cool. (My friend) Nancy and I slept in the den. One night Susan crept in.”
“She told me to lie down on the rug. I was confused. Are we going to play a game? As I tried to make sense of it, Susan pulled down the bloomers of my cotton baby-doll pajamas.”

(Wow, I have to give props to Vanessa Williams for having the guts to share something so personal and scary. We don’t hear about females that are molested by other females to often and it’s great to see someone who still has a lot of influence letting her dirty laundry to help others who may be faced with a similar situation – J.K.)
2. U.K. rag Heat magazine reports that the identity of Adele’s ex-boyfriend — you know, the “older” dude responsible for inspiring “Rolling in the Deep,” “Someone Like You” and one of the best-selling records of all time — has been revealed. And drumroll… it’s 31-year-old photographer Alex Sturrock!
Adele and Sturrock dated for about a year, from 2008 to 2009, and the romance was short and intense and volatile, according to a source who claims to be friends with Sturrock. On Sturrock’s website, all sorts of candid images of Adele can be found, which would support the source’s claim that he was also made the singer’s official photographer for her 2009 U.S. tour.
“They met through mutual friends and hit it off straight away. He shot her a few times and that was just it… They spent all their time together — and when they weren’t together they would call each other constantly,” the friend said.
Though an official reason for the split was not given, the source added that Sturrock refused to call Adele his girlfriend, despite living together in a flat in West London’s Shepherd’s Bush. Adele, as we all know, was left brutally heartbroken and began composing songs of redemption and heartbreak in the relationship’s aftermath.
(Haha, that’s hilarious…..Adele winning all those Grammy’s and making all the dough that she did off of her album “21” has to be the biggest “F You!” in history….Sadly, because of the society we live in, this guy is probably going to sue for public humiliation….oh well (shrugs) – J.K.)
3. Washington Wizards rookie Chris Singleton says he doesn’t care that he wasted $10,000 on Mega Millions tickets last week … ’cause he would’ve blown the cash in the nightclubs anyway.
The 22-year-old baller — who recently signed a $7 million contract — tweeted before he chased the $640 million jackpot last week, “I’m about to drop 10,000 on the lottery and cross my fingers.”

4. Atlanta police have launched an internal investigation into filmmaker Tyler Perry’s claim he was racially profiled by two white officers who pulled his car over, the police department said.
Perry, one of America’s most successful film and television producers, put a post on Facebook on Sunday describing a tense encounter with police, which he suggested “could have turned for the worse.”
“It was so hostile,” wrote Perry, who is African-American. “I was so confused. It was happening so fast that I could easily see how this situation could get out of hand very quickly. I didn’t feel safe at all.”
The Atlanta Police Department gave a statement to CNN on Wednesday confirming that two officers recently “encountered Mr. Tyler Perry during a traffic stop.”
“Mr. Perry’s concerns, as recently expressed by him publicly, will be the basis for referral of the matter to the department’s Office of Professional Standards,” the statement said. “OPS has opened an investigation to determine if Mr. Perry’s claims can be substantiated, and whether any departmental policies or procedures were violated during the stop.”

5. The expectation that the Augusta National golf club would do the right thing and avoid another wave of controversy over its male-only perception ended quickly here Wednesday.
The issue, which created great noise and no action back in 2003, when Martha Burke campaigned for female membership at the host of the legendary Masters Golf Tournament, emerged again recently when IBM named a woman as its chief executive. Most previous IBM CEOs have been Augusta members, and IBM is one of the main sponsors of the Masters.
There is no indication of whether Virginia Rometty has even asked for membership, although it is known that she does play golf. Nor is there a formal no-women policy at Augusta, just a track record of none having been admitted in 80 years.
With Augusta Chairman Billy Payne scheduled for his annual day-before-tournament news conference Wednesday, there was speculation that it would be a perfect opportunity for an announcement of Rometty’s membership.
Instead, the hard line stayed hard. Payne was asked at least half a dozen times by media members about the issue. His answer varied little: “All issues of membership are now, and have been historically, subject to private deliberations of the members.”

(It’s 2012!!!!!!!!! Are you kidding me, Augusta? First of all, no one likes golf anyways!……….Ok, I can’t lie I enjoy playing golf but I hate watching unless it’s either the end of a major or Tiger Woods is playing……..Anyways, the point is that it’s BS that Augusta National Golf Club is still allowed to be sexist in public viewpoint of everyone and no one is doing anything about it. If you’re still racist or sexist in 2012, kill yourself….sorry for being so blunt but let’s call a spade, a spade. – J.K.)
